Attention all readers:
I'm in need of a good "Adventurous Life" book. I'd prefer fiction, but I'd take non-fiction, too. Feel free to interpret the theme for yourself. I've already got A Country Called Home, by Kim Barnes, but I need another title. I'd prefer something recent, as well.
It's for our Beans and Books program where we invite the public to hear us book talk several books on a theme while they enjoy coffee and biscuits.
Thank you!

'K, this is totally non-fiction, but kind of a cool book: Adventurous Dreams, Adventurous Lives by Jason Schoonover. Jason is a bit crazy but super interesting, and he knows all these adventurer-types and got them all to contribute.
As for fictional adventures, you could always go the classics route: Robinson Crusoe, Treasure Island, Moby Dick, Journey to the Centre of the Earth...
Come to think of it, where are the female adventurer books??
I may be completely off-track for what you are looking for. Sorry.
The last good adult book I read was "Late Nights on Air" by Elizabeth Hay. It sounds like a similar premise to the one you mentioned (and kind of the same cover, too). But its about a radio station in Yellowknife, and the lives of the characters who work there. The adventure part is that the book is a build-up to a canoe trip that four of the characters take into the wilderness, re-living a route that a dead explorer had taken.
Also, it's older, but "Under the Tuscan Sun" is always a good chick-lit type adventure book.

You read Brother Fish? Isn't that non-fiction. I would consider it adventure. It is keeping me gripped and I am only half way at 375 pages. Then again, you probs read it already?
Hope you had a loverly weekend. Fingers and I had a good beach visit, not that I am rubbing it in. :)
Oh, my book is real old. I didn't real your whole post. Sorry. Anywho - it's good. :)

Hey, when you get your list set, can you send me a copy? I'm a huuuuggeeee fan of the genre so I could use some more titles.
To contribute (although I expect that your deadline has already passed):, I'm a big fan of:
- Jon Krakauer's "Into Thin Air" and "Into the Wild"
- James Chatto's "The Greek for Love"
- Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods"
I read Hurrah's suggestion of "Late Nights on Air" and wasn't as big of a fan but that's part of the trip right?
Late'ta,
Cousin Mike
